Puducherry, Aug 28 (UNI) Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) founder-president P Kannan today reiterated that the administration should implement the "Goondas Act" in the Union Territory.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Kannan, pointing to the increasing murders and robberies, said though the implmentation of the Act cannot prevent crimes totally, it could be curbed to some extent.

If the Government failed to initiate steps to introduce the Act, it should own responsibily for the crimes, he added.

The PMC leader alleged that the police department was not taking effective security measures even after the Home Ministry's direction to the southern states in the wake of the twin blasts in Hyderabad.

Despite efficient police officers here, the department was not rising to the occasion, he pointed out.

Stating that the menace of hired killers were on the rise here, he alleged that some realtors were utilising their services either to get money or to grab land from somebody.

Urging the administration to change its stance, Mr Kannan said if the government failed to do so, the party would be forced to adopt a harder approach.

He also sought constitution of a consultation committee to sort out the problem of providing free house site pattas to the poor and a fresh survey on the BPL families here to provide red colour rations cards.
