Tripura: Leftists to protest Indo-US Nuke deal

Agartala, Aug 27: The Tripura Left Front will be staging agitations and protest rallies on a subdivisional level against the Indo-US nuclear deal.

The Centre has, along with two other countries, proposed to hold a joint naval exercise in the Bay of Bengal in the first week of September .

In a statement here today, the Left Front leaders said the 123 Agreements would harm India's sovereignty. He said it was evident that India had voted against Iran twice on nuclear reactor, following pressure from the US.

''In order to consolidate US presence in Asia, three countries, including India, had decided to organise a joint naval exercise, to be held between September 4 and 9 in the Bay of Bengal,'' the statement said.

It had also added that under the prevailing situation, the Left Front would stage demonstrations against the move on September 6 to generate public opinion and make people aware the intention of Dr Monmohan Singh.

Leftists had also urged the people to join the agitation programme against growing incidences of US influence on Asian countries.
