Srinagar, Aug 27 (UNI) The Majlis Shoura, the highest decision- making body of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), today said only a UN resolution or holding of tripartite talks would help to resolve the Kashmir issue.

A JeI spokesman said a day long annual meeting of the shoura was held here today under Jamaat Amir Sheikh Mohammad Hussain in which representatives from all parts of the state discussed in detail the future strategy of the party.

In a statement at the end of the meeting held at JeI headquarters, he said the present political and social situation in the state, besides International happenings came in for discussion during the meeting.

He said the shoura members said implementation of the resolutions passed by the UN or holding of talks between all the three parties-- India, Pakistan and true representatives of the Jammu and Kashmir-- would help to find a durable and acceptable solution to the vexed Kashmir issue, which has claimed more than one lakh lives.

The shoura said the tension in the sub-continent would remain till the Kashmir issue was resolved peacefully. Restoration of peace would remain a distant dream without addressing the Kashmir issue, the members said.

The members also expressed serious concern over the increase in socials evils, particularly violence against women in the state.

They appealed to ulemas and other religious leaders to jointly fight against the social evils.
