Dasmunsi's meet with broadcasters on Bill put off again

New Delhi, Aug 27 (UNI) The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has deferred its meeting with broadcasters, which was to be held today to sort out the differences over the proposed Broadcasting Services Regulation Bill.

The meeting will now be held on September 7, an official said, adding that it was put off on the broadcasters' request.

The government wanted the Bill to be introduced in the current monsoon session of Parliament, which now seems almost impossible in view of the strong objections broadcasters have raised against several provisions of the draft legislation.

A spokesperson of the News Broadcasters Association said the meeting had to be deferred because some of the major broadcasters were not available today.

''In fact they had scheduled their engagements accordingly for the August 21 meeting, but that time it was the Information and Broadcasting Ministry which postponed the meeting because of their Minister's engagements,'' the spokesperson said.
