Imphal Aug 27: The 42nd Hunger Marchers' Day was today observed in Manipur.

It was organised by the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU). The day is observed every year to pay tributes to four students who died during the Hunger Marchers' movement in 1965 demanding food.

The state was facing scarcity of food in 1965 which led to a movement led by the youths. Four students, including a girl were killed in police firing and the next day on 28 August, 1965, the AMSU was formed by the youths of the state.

A large number of students offered floral tributes at the Hunger Marchers memorial at Pishum Chingamacha, Imphal, and proceeded towards Thau ground, Imphal, where a function was held.

A play depicting the movement was also shown.
