Two get life terms for child sacrifice in MP
Sheopur, MP, Aug 26 (UNI) A sessions court has sentenced a woman and her daughter-in-law to life imprisonment and a Rs 1,000 fine for sacrificing a seven-year-old child in the hope that it would lead to discovery of buried treasure.
Judge R P Sharma yesterday awarded the punishment to Prembai and her mother-in-law Dodibai who committed the crime seven years back.
According to prosecution, on October 3, 2000, this district's Sothwan village-resident Mahaveer Meena's son Lakshman was called by neighbourhood tantrik Shankarlal Meena's daughter Ramdwarika on the pretext of taking 'prasad'. The boy's headless corpse was later found near the village. Cases were registered against the tantrik, his wife Prembai, Dodibai and Ramdwarika. Shankarlal died in prison.
A case is sub judice in a juvenile court against Ramdwarika.
