Suicide bomber kills four Pakistani policemen
ISLAMABAD, Aug 26 (Reuters) A suicide bomber in a car killed four policemen and wounded two in an attack in northwestern Pakistan today, police said.
Violence has escalated in Pakistan since a peace deal with tribal fighters linked to the Taliban and al Qaeda broke down in North Waziristan, and after the army assaulted a militant mosque in the capital, Islamabad.
Senior police officer Mohammad Iqbal in the northwestern town of Swat told Reuters the bomber was travelling in a car and blew himself up when police stopped him at a checkpost.
''He broke a police cordon-off and then he blew himself up when he was stopped at another checkpost,'' Iqbal said.
He said four policemen were killed and two wounded in the attack.
