State unable to check cholera, three dead so far
Guwahati, Aug 26 (UNI) Panic has gripped Assam's capital city as the state health department was unable to check the spread of Cholera that has claimed three lives so far.
Confirming the deaths, the health department authorities here said three others were being treated at city's Mohendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital.
''Most of the cases were detected from the Padumpukhuri and Uzanbazar area of the city, they added.
However, being unable to isolate the source, the health department has started a massive public awareness drive from today.
The officials further pointed out that the situation was not alarming and urged the people to take definite measures to prevent this water-borne disease.
Meanwhile, State Health Minister Humanta Biswa Sarma, after reviewing the situation with the district health officials, announced that the government has enough medicines and expertise to fight the disease.
