River pollution poses a serious threat to Tripura
Agartala, Aug 26: Despite sufficient rainfall and humid sub-tropical climate, Tripura is facing a serious threat of water pollution due to discharge of contaminated sewage into water resources.
An official report of the Central Water Commission here today stated that large stretches of Tripura's rivers were getting polluted due to the dumping of human excreta, domestic sewage and industrial effluents.
Tripura has about ten rain-fed rivers, which originate in the hill ranges and being ephemeral in nature, flow either in a northern or western direction through the narrow valleys before flowing down to Bangladesh.
