Opposition parties to visit cholera-infested districts
Bhubaneswar, Aug 26 (UNI) A four-member delegation of Opposition political parties will soon visit the cholera-infested districts of Rayagada, Kalahandi and Koraput to take stock of the situation.
Orissa Gana Parishad (OGP) General Secretary Ajay Mishra in a statement here said the representatives of CPI, CPI-M, Janata Dal(S) and OGP would soon visit the districts.
Mr Mishra said more than 300 tribals have died from cholera in Dasmantapur block of Koraput, Kashipur block of Rayagada and Thuamul-Rampur block of Kalahandi district and thousands more have been affected by the bacteria since the last fortnight.
Describing it as the 'biggest tragedy of the century', the OGP held the state government, particularly the inactiveness of health department, responsible for the situation.
The OGP leader warned that the government would be held responsible for any subsequent situation if it failed to take preventive measures on a war-footing to control the disease.
