Nine theft suspects arrested in Una

Una, Aug 26 (UNI) The Una police today arrested nine persons, suspected to be involved in a series of thefts of construction steel material in Una district during the last few months.

The inter-state gang incluides persons from Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, police sources said.

Those arrested include Sohan Singh, Parkash Bahadur, Karamjit Singh, Sandeep Singh, Sukh Dev, Devinder Singh and Ajay Kumar, all belonging to Khanna in Punjab while Rashpal Singh from Mandi in HP and Om Parkash from Uttar Pradesh, police said.

All the nine were seen moving under suspicious circumstances at Saloh village today morning. It is reported that one Neeraj Puri, whose shop in Dangoli village was burgled recently, was also on the spot at Saloh. On inquiries, the gang failed to give satisfactory replies regarding their presnce in the village. All suspects were later handed over to the police.

Police said the gang has admitted to have stolen more than 20 quintals of iron construction bars from Ashley steel and hardware store in Dangoli that belonged to Neeraj Puri. It is reported that the gang, comprising of youth, used to pick up bundles of steel bars from open shop stores and transport these in their truck. A case under section 379 IPC has been registered.
