Mysore, Aug 26 (UNI) The Mysore city, known for its palaces and heritage buildings, will get a facelift soon under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

Talking to UNI here today, City Corporation Commssioner Chandrasekhar said a detailed project report had been submitted to the JNNURM by the city corporation authorities.

He said the restoration and conservation works would be taken up at a cost of Rs 20 crore in the first phase.

Of the 34 heritage buildings maintained by the Public Works Department, 15 would be taken up for restoration works in the first phase.

The city development plan had classified them under three grades.

The grade I comprised buildings and precincts of national or historic importance, embodying excellence in architectural style and aesthetics such as the Mysore palace, the CFTRI campus and the Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion.

While the grade II structures were classified according to regional or local importance, the grade III buildings represented the lifestyle of a particular community, he added.
