Malaysian Independence Rally crosses Naga

Kohima, Aug 26:The Malaysian 50th Independence Expedition Tour, which started from Cape Town in South Africa, arrived here yesterday and subsequently left for Imphal in Manipur.

The expedition tour, led by Deputy Defence Minister of Malaysia Dato Haji Zainal Abedin Bin Haji Zin, has been organised to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Malaysian Independence, with 53 members, including Deputy Chief of Malayasian Army Lt Gen Edapuk Haji Shahron Bin Haji Ibrahim Dudm, lest in thirteen vehicles, from Cape Town on July 28.

The tour has already crossed 12 countries, including India.

Later, it would travel through Myanmar and Thailand and finally reach Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, on August 30, the eve of their Independence Day after covering 21,800 km.

It reached Dimapur yesterday, where they were received by Brig S A Hasnain, officiating Chief of Staff headquarters 3 Corps. The Muslim Council at Dimapur arranged Namaz for the visiting team.

Subsequently, the tour arrived at Kohima, where they were received by Nagaland Home Minister Thenucho at the Indoor Stadium here. Welcoming the guests, Mr Thenucho described them as close neighbours and termed the visit as a bond of love between the two countries. They were also offered many traditional items as a token of love from Nagaland.

The deputy defence minister of Malaysia appreciated the people for their hospitality and love. He said Nagaland was a state of scenic beauty and pleasant climate with beautiful people. He emphasised on the improvement of friendly relations between the two countries with the help of cultural ties and cooperation in the economic front for mutual benefits.

Later, the expedition tour left for Imphal.
