Kidnapped garden manager rescued

Silchar, Aug 26: A manager of a rubber garden in Narayanpur area at Assam's Karimganj district, who was abducted on August 22, was rescued from Shivbari locality at Duhaliya Hills here today.

Police said the suspected militants had kidnapped Ravindra Sinha, younger brother of Patharkandi MLA Kartik Sena Sinha, from his quarters at gun point.

However, the kidnappers fled, leaving Sinha in the forest as security forces intensified operations against the abducters, police added.

Mr Sinha had been admitted to Patharkandi government hospital.

Nine persons, including two from Tripura, were also arrested in this connection in the past three days, police said.

Meanwhile, search was on for a PHE employee, who was kidnapped from his home at Dariagram in Hailakandi district on August 24 by suspected United Liberation Front of Barak Valley (ULFBV) militants, police added.
