Govt committed to remove regional imbalance: Kumaraswamy

Belgaum, Aug 26 (UNI) The Karnataka Government is committed to remove regional imbalance, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said today.

Speaking after laying the foundation for construction of 'Suvarna Vidhana Soudha' here, he said as a measure towards removing the regional imbalance, the government had taken a bold step forward of constructing the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha building at a cost of Rs 230 crore.

Dispelling fears about the postponement of World Kannada conference scheduled to be held next month, Mr Kumaraswamy said the conference was postponed twice earlier due to floods and elections.

''But this time it will be held in a grand manner and there is no doubt about it,'' he said.

Mr Kumaraswamy said Belgaum would become the second Capital of the State.

The Chief Minister alleged that the Union Government was showing a 'step motherly' treatment to the state in all respects.

Mr Kumaraswamy advised neighbouring Maharashtra to concentrate more on problems faced by that State instead of raising the Belgaum border issue.

Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) President H D Deve Gowda and Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who participated in the function along with the Chief Minister refused to reply to a question on transfer of power to BJP by JD(S) in October, saying that ''we have decided to maintain silence on the issue till October.''
