DoP to computerise 1,500 post offices by Mar '08

New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) With a view to improve work efficiency, the Department of Posts has said it will computerise at least 1,500 post offices in the country by the end of this financial year.

At present, there are over 8,200 computerised post offices in the country.

''By the end of this fiscal, we will have about 10,000 computerised post offices in the country,'' Secretary to the Department of Posts I M G Khan said here.

About 26,000 departmental post offices will be interconnected with each other during the Eleventh Five Year Plan, he said, adding that 56,000 branch offices in the rural areas will also be computerised.

Currently, there are over 1,56,000 post offices in the country.
