Amritsar-Anandpur Sahib rail link proposed
Phagwara, Aug 26 (UNI) The two main holy towns of Punjab, Amritsar and Anandpur Sahib would be linked directly by rail in the near future, Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal announced here yesterday.
Giving details to reporters here, Mr Atwal said a proposal had been discussed with Railway Board Chairman for construction of a Rs 532 crore railway link between Amritsar and Anandpur Sahib by laying a 45 km railway line between Jejon and Anandpur Sahib via Garhshankar.
The two most important Sikh Takhts, Akal Takht and Takht Keshgarh Sahib are at Amritsar and Anandpur Sahib respectively. The only direct link between the two places is by road.
