Air Deccan launches Kolkata-Jamshedpur flight

Jamshedpur, Aug 26: Air Deccan here today launched its Kolkata-Jamshedpur flight to mark the Centenary celebrations of Tata Steel.

Speaking on the occasion, Tata Steel Managing Director B Muthuraman said, "It is our privilege to announce the launch of this flight as we enter our Centenary year and add another admirable facility to the Steel City." "The launch of the commercial Air Deccan flight will now provide air connectivity between Jamshedpur and Kolkata," added Mr Muthuraman.

He further said, "The Tatas were the pioneers in starting commercial flights in India through Tata Airlines under the stewardship of J R D Tata and this initiative by Air Deccan has now put Jamshedpur on the air map." Recognising the potential and needs of growing economy, Air Deccan has built the country's largest airline network connecting 66 cities, including unconnected cities like Kolhapur, Kandla, Tuticorn, Rajahmundry. The airline has demystified air travel in India by providing reliable, low-cost and safe travel with a fleet of 43 new aircraft flying more than 360 flights a day.

CEO Air Deccan Ramki Sundaram said, "We have long desired to bring the Hub of India's steel and engineering industries on the aviation map and with the launch of this flight, we are confident that the city will embark on another phase of growth." Airport Authority of India Director SPS Bakhshi said, "We are ready to provide all infrastructure to Sonari Aerodrome to transform it into an airport." Air Deccan would run its one-hour flights (DN-585) from Kolkata to Jamshedpur and corresponding from Jamshedpur to Kolkata (DN-586).
