Yechuri condemns alleged attack on CPM Leader

Hyderabad, Aug 25 (UNI) CPI(M) Politbureau Member Sitaram Yechuri condemned the alleged attack on Party Leader B V Raghavulu during 'Bhooporatam' (land struggle) in Khammam District today.

Speaking to newsmen here, he said his party was capable of resisting and responding to such attacks. It was improper to hold discussions on the issue on one side and resort to attacks on the other.

The Congress Government should resolve the issue through discussions and not allow such incidents.

Party Assistant Secretary Y Venkata Rao claimed the attacks were deliberate. There were similar attacks on his partymen in Nalgonda District.

Several newspapers reported that Nalgonda Congress MLA and 'Chief Minister's confidant' Komatireddi Venkata Reddy reportedly told the Chief Minister the ''Nalgonda response'' was the proper answer for CPI(M)'s 'Bhooporatam.' He wanted to know why there was no condemnation from the Congress leaders when papers published these reports.

The Congress was resorting to attacks on CPI(M) leaders and cadre as it was unable to counter the agitation democratically.

While the Congress, which talked of Gandhism, was resorting to violence, his party was proceeding with its movement in a peaceful and non-violent manner.

He claimed seven people were killed in police firing on agitators, illegal cases foisted on 50,000 people and 2,000 people imprisoned.

His party was not new to such attacks and would properly respond to them.
