Naga issue in Congress poll agenda

Kohima, Aug 25 (UNI) The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has declared that the Naga political issue and development will be the party's main agenda in the election manifesto.

Addressing the general session of NPCC here yesterday, leader of Opposition I Imkong said though the Congress suffered defeat in the last elections, he hoped that it would come to power in the polls scheduled early next year.

NPCC president Hokheto Sumi reminded party leaders from across the state about the party's important role in solving the Naga political issue and stressed the need to forget the past and begin afresh.

He also suggested developing a ''humane and political relationship with all the underground groups.'' The session resolved to appeal to the Naga national workers (underground) to unite and achieve a lasting political solution besides, urging the Centre to implement the 16-point agreement.

It also resolved to seek the opinion of all Naga leaders without any discrimination or party affiliations on the issue and be politically accommodative and approachable to all sections of the Naga people.

On the integration of Naga contiguous areas, the party said the 16-point agreement of 1960 had remained ''elusive and unfulfilled for the last 47 years.'' UNI
