MRS Academy, Malwa Khalsa School in final
Chandigarh, Aug 25 (UNI) Maharaja Ranjit Singh Hockey Academy of Amritsar will take on Malwa Khalsa School of Ludhiana in the final tomorrow with a psychological advantage as they got the better of them by 3-2 in the last four-team round robin league in the sixth SN Vohra Sub-Junior Under-14 Hockey Tournament at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here Saturday evening.
With this victory, the Amritsar team topped the league table with nine points with an all-win record. The teams played one-all draw in the first half. Malwa Khalsa School forged ahead in the third minute as Gagandeep converted their first penalty corner. Maharaj Ranjit Singh Academy restored parity as Gurpreet converted his team's third penalty corner. Gurpreet himself gave the Amritsar team the lead with a field goal in the 37th minute. Eleven minutes later Ramandeep Singh made it 3-1 in favour of MRS Academy. The Ludhiana team fought hard and were able to reduce the margin in the 51st minute with a penalty corner conversion.
Harmanpreet of MRS Academy was declared the man of the match.
Earlier, Baba Uttam Singh Hockey Academy of Khadoor Sahib routed GRM School of New Delhi by 7-0 after leading 5-0 at half time.
Gagandeep Singh (5th, 28th), Gurpreet Singh (9th, 10th), Amandeep (23rd), Varun Kumar (40th) and Sukhjeet Singh (55th) were the scorers.
Indian Hockey Federation president KPS Gill will distribute the prizes after the final which will be played under lights.
