Khuga multi-purpose dam to become functional soon
Imphal, Aug 25 (UNI) Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today announced the Khuga multipurpose project of Churachandpur district will be able to provide water by this year-end.
The chief minister, while inspecting the project, further said the power production work may begin next year. The much-awaited project will be able to provide water for irrigation and drinking purposes to the people of Churachandpur districts and some portions of Bishenpur district.
Several cabinet ministers, including Phungzathang Tonsing, TN Haokip and N Biren had accompanied the chief minister.
Officials said about five million gallons of drinking water will be provided per day and 1.75-mw power produced.
Planning for the project started in 1980 and work began in 1987, with the irrigation section and canals of the dam being almost completed. The chief minister also inspected the canals and other sites of the dam.
UNI
