JD(S)-BJP Coalition committee meet deferred again

Bangalore, Aug 25 (UNI) The much awaited co-ordination committee meeting of coalition partners Janata Dal(S) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnatka, intended to iron out differences and clear the smoke over the issue of transfer of power this morning was once again a non starter.

The meeting which was to be held yesterday evening was postponed for this morning as Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy was held up in Kolar. However this morning also the meeting was postponed indefinitely as some members of the coordination committee were away from the city, Sources in Chief Minister's Secretariat told UNI.

The meeting had assumed political importance following recent developments which had rendered BJP unhappy and put the coalition setup on the rock.

Mr Kumaraswamy had been issued conflicting statements over transfer of power to BJP scheduled for October three after the JD(S) completed its term of 20 month in office. The Chief Minister had also been quoted in the media that the alliance with the BJP had caused the JD(S)party dearly, as minorities distanced themselves from it.

The unilateral decision to appoint a member to the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) which was supposed to go to BJP also made BJP leaders angry and registered their protest against the highhanded attitude of the JD(S) and threatened to boycott the Cabinet meeting recently.

The new date for the coordination committee was however not fixed and it might not be held soon, the sources said.
