Greek forest fire death toll rises to 46
ATHENS, Aug 25 (Reuters) Forest fires that have swept through Greece in the past two days have killed 46 people and more are feared dead, the fire department said today.
''We are in the sad position to say six more people have been found dead and the total number of victims is now 46,'' said fire department spokesman Nikos Diamandis.
The Greek government has declared the country in a state of emergency after the fires spread throughout the southern Peloponnese peninsula and other regions, including a blaze near Athens.
