Five booked for liquor smuggling

Hoshiarpur, Aug 25 (UNI) Police has booked five persons and seized huge quantity of liquor of various brands from them overnight in the district.

According to the police sources, Sadar Police, on a tip-off, signaled to stop a jeep coming from Una side at a special 'naka' (check post) laid at Chack Sadhu area today morning.

During its search police seized 9.09 lakh ML whisky (101 boxes) of various brands from the jeep. Police arrested Varinderjit Singh and Joginder Pal. However, Ravinder Singh alias Ashok Kumar managed to flee.

In another case Sadar Police also arrested Amarjit Singh of Piala and seized 6750 ML liquor from him.

Similarly, Hariana Police has arrested Sarabjit Singh alias Saba of Hussainpur and seized 18000 ML Sohni Rum from him.

All the accused have been booked under sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act.
