Electricity projects make India power surplus by 2012: Shinde

Chennai, Aug 25 (UNI) Electricity projects under implementation would make India a power surplus country by 2012, Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said today.

Talking to newspersons at the airport here, he said the Centre was keen on taking various steps to improve power production to meet the on going demand.

''All the proposed power projects are aimed to meet the problem of power shortage in the country,'' he pointed out.

To a question whether there would be any change in Indo-US nuke deal due to the stiff resistance from the Left, he said ''it has to be decided by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.'' ''The problem will be sorted out very soon and there is no threat to our government,'' he added.
