Disaster Management at Panchayat Level in HP

Dharamshala, Aug 25 (UNI) District Administration had started an exercise to constitute Disaster Management Committees at Panchayat level and to train the members of these committees to meet the natural calamity, said Deputy Commissioner Kangra Bharat Kher here today.

Deputy Commissioner said the District Disaster Management Authority will work equally during normal time and in emergency.

He said these committees will immediately respond in the event of any disaster at local level. These committees will be a replica of the District Disaster Management Authority and would be set up at Sub-Division and Tehsil level, he said.

Mr Kher said District Disaster Management Authorities have been established in all districts of the state under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 of the Central Government.

This authority will be constituted under the Deputy Commissioner, Chairperson Ex-officio and include SP, CMO, SEs of PWD, I&PH and Electricity and Chairperson of the Zila Parishad as member, he said.

A Rehabilitation Committee has also been set up for affected people by natural calamity as earthquake, floods, drought, landslides, forest fire and accidents of all sorts, he added.
