Srinagar, Aug 25 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police have detained four suspected persons in the kidnapping, alleged rape and subsequent killing of a ten-year-old girl in the summer capital, the Legislative Assembly was informed today.

A senior police officer was directed to investigate the entire incident so that the culprits are brought to book, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Taj Mohi-ud-Din said.

He said as per speculation, the girl was raped and then murdered.

''Four suspects were picked up by the Police for investigations,'' he said.

Giving details about the incident, he informed the House that as per the report on August 23, 2007 at around 1513 hours, Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Ikhrajpora, Raj Bagh, reported at Police Station Raj Bagh that his daughter Sabrina has not returned home since 1300 hours.

The report further revealed that at about 1400 hours on August 24, 2007, police found a body of the girl in an abandoned migrant house in the same locality.

The body was sent for post mortem and samples were sent to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further tests which are awaited.

Mr Taj said that the House condemned and expressed grief and anger over this heinous crime and collectively stressed that culprits be identified as soon as possible and given most severe punishment.

Earlier, the speaker Tara Chand had directed the government to make a statement on the incident after National Conference (NC) members had raised the issue in the house when it assembled this morning.

The house was later adjourned to meet again on August 30 morning, after four days recess to enable members to celebrate the Rakshabandan with their families.
