N-deal: US reiterates commitment to India

Washington, Aug 24: The Bush Administration has said both the United States and the Indian government are ''very committed'' to the successful conclusion of the Indo-US Civil Nuclear agreement.

''We're going to be working towards that goal, Gonzalo R Gallegos, Director, Office of Press Relations in the State Department said yesterday during the Department's routine daily briefing.

The Indo-US nuclear deal may well unravel in the sort of give-and-take of Indian politics this week. What is the US doing about this? It is taking a wait-and-see -- or does have a alternative way to sort out this problem or try to work with the Indians to make it more palatable? In reply to these questions the US spokesman however, said, that he''won't be commenting on internal matters of India, as its a discussion that they're having, the government is serious about holding and continuing working towards the fulfillment of this agreement, and we share the same commitment with them.'' In reply to another question about any US plan of sending its diplomats abroad to meet with the Indian side, or are they planning to come here, Gallegos denied having any information in this regard.
