Suicide attack kills two soldiers in NW Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, Aug 24 (Reuters) A suicide car bomber killed two Pakistani soldiers and wounded three today in an attack on a military convoy in a troubled tribal region near the Afghan border, a military spokesman said.
The attack is the latest in a new wave of violence that has struck Pakistan after a 10-month peace deal with militants broke down in North Waziristan and military commandos stormed a mosque in the capital, Islamabad, last month to crush a Taliban-style movement.
''The bomber rammed his car into the military convoy near Mir Ali, killing two soldiers and wounded three,'' army spokesman, Major-General Waheed Arshad, said referring to the main town in North Waziristan.
Early in the day, a roadside bomb wounded three troops near another checkpost in the region.
Attacks on security forces have intensified in recent weeks in Waziristan, a region regarded as a hotbed of support for Taliban and al Qaeda militants.
More than 200 people, most of them soldiers and policemen, have been killed since last month. The majority of the deaths occurred in Waziristan and other parts of northwest Pakistan REUTERS SKB DS1202
