PMK lauds Mayawati's decision

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 24 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi(PMK) President G K Mani, MLA, tonight lauded Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's decision to order the closure of Reliance Fresh Stores in Lucknow and Varanasi.

Talking to newspersons Mr Mani, who was here in connection with the party's fourth 'Zonal Right to Live Conference', from tomorrow said Ms Mayawati's decision was bold.

He claimed that PMK was the only party in the country to raise its voice against the entry of the Corporates in the country's retail market, as it would affect the interests of small traders and day-to-day life of lakhs of people, who were involved in the trade for decades.

He said Mayawati's decision was a victory for PMK and wanted other states to follow the footsteps of Uttar Pradesh government.

Stating that PMK founder S Ramadoss always opposed the entry of the Corporates in the retail markets of India, Mr Mani said, he had time and again urged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to fulfil the wishes of Dr Ramadoss and his partymen.

Mr Mani said Mr Karunanidhi had, however, agreed to safeguard the interests of domestic traders and hoped that the Chief Minister would follow the examples set by Ms Mayawati.
