Nashik government doctors stage demonstrations
Nashik, Aug 24 (UNI) Members of the Maharashtra Gazetted Medical Officers Association (MGMOA) today staged demonstrations in front of the office of the deputy director (health services) here to protest the ''injustice meted to them''.
The doctors have alleged that since the last few years, the state government has been appointing them on a contract basis instead of providing regular employment, and are being deprived of various benefits.
The contract is for a period of eleven months, but the contract of 150 doctors was not renewed last year while the contract of 159 doctors was not renewed this year.
In order to press for their demands, the doctors had refused to implement the state government's scheme of ''Doctor tumvchya gavi (Doctor in your village)'' that was started with effect from August 15.
The state government has issued show cause notices to 195 doctors in Nashik district for not particpating in the scheme, the MGMOA has said while alleging that the services of two doctors were terminated without even awaiting their replies within the stipulated period.
The doctors today burnt copies of the show cause notices, raised slogans against the government, and also took out a ''morcha'' to the zilla parishad.
