Modi announces new township policy

Gandhinagar, Aug 24 (UNI) Considering the growing pace of urbanisation in the state, Chief Minister Narendra Modi today announced Gujarat Integrated Township policy.

Briefing media persons in this regard, state Urban Development Minister I K Jadeja said, ''Vibrant Gujarat Investment Summits have opened flood gates to different projects worth crores of rupees, ranging from knowledge economy, industries and infrastructural development to information technology, bio-technology and finance.

All this has shaped up the idea of the integrated township policy.'' ''The salient features of the policy will include giving impetus to economical development, helping build up residential colonies, roping in public-private partnership in urban development, giving support to private sector in urban development, creating housing schemes for middle class families and building houses with various facilities,'' said Mr Jadeja.

''The other features of the policy include improvement of electricity, water supply and road, land allotment, project rating for builders, verifying builders' records, and transparency in account,'' he said.

''The cities of Ahmedabad, Surat and Rajkot rank among the 100 most developed city of the world. These three cities constitute 29 percent of the total urban population of India. And as for the urban population, Gujarat constitutes 40 percent of India's population,'' he added.
