LS to discuss Price rise on August 29
New Delhi, Aug 24 (UNI) The Lok Sabha will discuss continued rise in the prices of essential commodities on August 29.
In fact, the issue was today sought to be raised by CPI's Gurudas Dasgupta during Zero Hour through a call attention motion.
However, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee suggested that the issue be debated under Rule 193 of Rules of Business of the house in view of the seriousness of the matter.
Earlier, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said that he was not prepared to give a reply if the issue was taken up today as a call attention as he received the concerned notice from the Lok Sabha Secretariat only at 2130 hrs last night.
He urged the Chair to postpone the call attention on price rise to some other day. He also favoured a debate on the issue, rather than briefly discussing it today as a call attention motion.
By taking into consideration the general sense of the house, Mr Chatterjee announced that price rise would be taken up for discussion at 1500 hours on August 29.
He said the debate would be initiated by Mr Gurudas Dasgupta.
