India records second highest wheat production

New Delhi, Aug 24 (UNI) India produced a 74.89 million tonnes of wheat recording second highest production in the country this year, Rajya Sabha was informed today.

Answering Mr Nandi Yellaiah, Minister of State for Agriculture Kanti Lal Bhuria said in a written reply no wheat was imported from US between 2004-05 to 2006-07 and there was no domestic scarcity in India.

The production estimated by the fourth advance estimates showed that the production was second highest after 76.39 million tonnes in 1999-2000, he said.
