Devotees throng Kanakadurga Temple in AP
Vijayawada, Aug 24 (UNI) Hundreds of devotees from several parts of Krishna District today thronged the famous Kanakadurga Temple atop Indrakeeladri Hills for worshipping the goddess in the form of 'Varalakshmi Devi' on the occasion of 'Varalakshmi Vratham.' Since dawn, devotees took a holy dip in River Krishna and later went to the temple for worship. Long queues could be seen.
Temple officials permitted only two wheelers to the hills due to heavy influx of pilgrims. However, devasthanam buses would take the pilgrims to the temple, sources said.
For the first time, the temple authorities have made arrangements to celebrate 'Varalakshmi Vratham' at Bhavani Mandapam in the temple. The Kanakadurgam Devastham performed 'Sakambari Festival' for three days during 'Ashada Masam' last month when the goddess was decorated with vegetables.
At Rajahmundry, a large number of people took holy bath in River Godavari river on the occasion, reports said.
