BMC to involve NGOs for dog sterilisation
Mumbai, Aug 24 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has appointed NGOs for carrying out sterilisation of dogs.
Addressing a press conference today, Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak said till the BMC receives the High Court's nod to put the stray dogs ''to sleep'', the sterilisation work will be carried out.
The faraway suburbs like Dahisar, Bhandup and nearby areas require more programmes for dog sterilisation and the BMC has invited NGOs and other organisations for the same, he added.
According to official estimates, there are around 5 million stray dogs all over the city and sterilising them is going to be a onerous task for any organisation.
