Wanted dacoit killed in encounter

Mahoba, Aug 23 (UNI) Police today gunned down the kingpin of the notorious Panchu gang, Bahawani Deen, carrying a bounty of Rs 5,000 on his head.

Acting on a tip-off about the presence of a hardened dacoit in the jungles of village Indrahata, cops reached the spot and cordoned off the area.

On being challenged, the history-sheeter opened fire. In the ensuing encounter, wanted dacoit Bhawani was eliminated.

His accomplice, however, managed to escape.

The terror of the slain criminal haunted several districts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

In Mahoba, as many as 19 cases of loot, dacoity and murder were pending against him, police said.
