Six Pharmaceutical institutes to come up

New Delhi, Aug 23 (UNI) Six National Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) will be set up in the country.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here tonight.

The new institutes will come up at Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Hajipur (Bihar), Kolkata (West Bengtal), Guwahati (Assam) and Rae Bareily (Uttar Pradesh), Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi told mediapersons.

He said some courses would be commenced at four locations of new NIPERs during the current academic session starting from September this year.

Mr Dasmunsi said the decision would facilitate training of high caliber phamarceutical experts and award of Masters Degrees to cater to the demand of pharmaceuticals industry, academic institutes and the pharmarcy profession.

He said a Consultant of repute would be appointed to prepare the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for each institute where possible on the Public Private lPartnership mode.

Pending the constitution of the Board of Governors under the NIPER Act 1998, an apex steering committee would be set up under the chairmanship of a government Secretary to oversee the functioning of these NIPERs, he said.
