Sanjay Dutt released from Yerawada jail
Pune, Aug 23 (UNI) Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt was released from Yerawada jail here early this morning, three days after being granted interim bail by the Supreme Court in connection with the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts that killed 257 people.
Dutt emerged from the jail at 0730 hrs with a shaven head, sporting a stubble, a white shirt and a pair of jeans. He was received by his brother-in-law Kumar Gaurav outside the prison. Dutt waved to the crowd outside the jail but he did not speak to the media.
The actor immediately left for the Pune airport to catch a chartered flight to Mumbai.
The release papers were processed by his lawyer Satish Maneshinde, who reached the jail at 0530 hrs today. Yusuf Nalwala, Dutt's friend and co-accused in the case, was also released beside him.
Dutt was sentenced to six years in prison under the Arms Act by Special TADA Judge P D Kode on July 31 for illegal possession of arms.
The macho superstar and five others were granted bail by the apex court as they had not been given a copy of their sentences by the Mumbai court that convicted them.
All will have to return to prison once they receive copies of the sentence.
Dutt has already served 18 months after his 1994 arrest and had been out on bail for 12 years.
