Prohibitory orders clamped in Meghalaya
Shillong, Aug 23 (UNI) Prohibitory orders have been clamped in Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi Hills district after the Khasi Student's Union, planned to erect an ''infiltration check gate'' on National Highway-40 near Byrnihat.
The district administration of Ri-Bhoi promulgated the order under Section 144 of the Cr PC prohibiting any sort of obstruction to free movement of vehicular traffic causing inconvenience to the public and out and in bound passengers of long distance buses, Deputy Commissioner S F Khongwir said today.
Recently, the KSU had announced that it would erect an ''infiltration check gate'' near Byrnihat to check illegal Bangladeshis immigrants entering Meghalaya, alleging that the Infiltration branch personnel failed to detect illegal immigrants.
The student's body had conducted checking on vehicles entering the State following the All Assam Student's Union and All Arunachal Pradesh Student's Union launched their 'operation drive clean' to evict illegal Bangladeshi nationals.
