Prices of essential commodities generally steady last week
New Delhi, Aug 23 (UNI) Retail prices of essential commodities at four metropolitan cities have remained stable or shown mixed trend in the week ending August 17, 2007.
Prices of atta, sugar, vanaspati, tea, milk and salt were steady over the week, as per the monitoring by the Department of Consumer Affairs.
Prices increased in respect of wheat by 50 paise per kg at Mumbai, groundnut oil by Re. 1 per kg at Delhi and Rs 2 per kg at Chennai. Potato prices rose by Rs 2 per kg at Delhi and Chennai and 50 paise per kg at Kolkata. Onion prices increased by Rs 2 per kg at Delhi and Chennai and Rs. 1 per kg at Mumbai.
Prices declined in the case of gram dal by Re 1 per kg at Kolkatta, tur dal by Rs 2 per kg at Mumbai and Kolkata, groundnut oil by Re 1 per kg at Kolkata and mustard oil by Rs 2 per kg at Kolkata.
At Delhi prices of rice, atta, tur dal, tea loose and salt remained steady over the month, sugar and milk over the fortnight and gram dal, mustard oil and vanaspati over the week.
