People support AAPSU's 'Operation Clean Drive-II'

Itanagar, Aug 23 (UNI) The people of East Siang district have supported the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union's (AAPSU) second phase of 'Operation Clean Drive' against illegal immigrants.

AAPSU sources here today said before launching the drive in the district, they had called a consultative meeting at Pasighat here yesterday for public approval.

The meeting, chaired by North East Students' Union (NESO) secretary general Gunjum Haider and attended by representatives from All Assam Students' Union (AASU), besides general public, endorsed the AAPSU's drive to evict the illegal immigrants from the district.

They have also approach the concerned authorities to create a separate department of Inner Line Permit (ILP) to streamline the prevailing system, sources said.

The AAPSU had earlier decided to launch the second phase from August 17 in Papum Pare and East Siang district. However, the district administration banned such a drive.

The AAPSU, in the first phase, had driven away more than 5,000 illegal immigrants.

Meanwhile, AAPSU executive members decided to approach all Banggo Kebangs (tribal councils) of the Adi belt to pass a resolution for non-engagement of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants as workers for any purpose.

It also added that the inter-caste marraiges rampant among the Kebangs, a tribe, and the migrants to obtain permanent residentship in the state should be checked.
