Ujjain, MP, Aug 23 (UNI) Even as hectic activity was witnessed at Madhya Pradesh's colleges that witnessed students' union elections today, a strange silence prevailed at the local Madhav College that is probably the state's oldest such institution.

Prof Harbhajan Singh Sabharwal died in violence that erupted at the college on August 26 last year after postponement of a union poll process. It is understood that a unanimous decision not to conduct a poll this year was taken by the Staff Council to prevent any untoward incident. The decision was ayed by the Higher Education Department.

Amid tight security, polling took place peacefully at Madhav Science College, Government Kalidas Girls' College, Girls' Degree College and Sandipani College.

''No violence was reported from anywhere in the district,'' Superintendent of Police Jaideep Prasad told UNI
