Imphal, Aug 23 (UNI) Manipur Food and Civil Supplies (FCS) Minister Yumkham Erabot has started supervising the public distribution system in the state to check its misuse.

The minister had received complaints from the public that they were facing problems in lifting rice from the FCS godown at Sangaiprou here.

Therefore, to ensure that people got the supplies properly, Mr Erabot had been camping daily at the godown for fair distribution and lifting of the allotted quota by district officials.

''The district officials must be responsible for proper distribution of rice,'' FCS officials said.

The minister said he would continue to supervise the distribution system personally at the godown.

''The agents can collect the quota by paying the amount and there will be no room for foul play,'' he assured.

The rate of AAY rice is Rs 337 per quintal, Rs 610.80 per quintal for BPL rice and Rs 885.05 per quintal for APL rice.

''The district officials must help the poor people and lift rice at credit,'' the FCS minister said.

The minister also recently toured all the districts to enquire about the distribution system and pulled up officials who were neglecting their duties.
