Flood situation improves in UP
Lucknow, Aug 23 (UNI) People in the flood-hit districts of Uttar Pradesh heaved a sigh of relief with a dip in water level in prominent rivers viz Ganga, Ram Ganga, Ghaghra, Sharda, Kuano and Rapti.
Meanwhile, with the death of five more persons in Bareilly due to rain related incident in the last 24 hrs had taken the toll to 233 so far.
According to Central Water Commission, the turbulent Ghaghra was flowing at the danger mark in Elignbridge, while it was overflowing the red mark by 55 cm and 85 cm in Ayodhya and Turtipar respectively.
Rapti was flowing 10 cm below the danger level in Birdghat.
Where, Kuano in Chandradeep Ghat was flowing 11 cm below the danger mark, Ramganga in Dabri (Shahjahanpur) was overflowing the red mark by 9 cm.
According to met department, sporadic rainfall was witnessed in some parts of the state.
The rising water level of the Ghaghra river in Gorakhpur's Bedhailganj has affected the traffic movement at Ram Janki Marg, which connects Deoria.
The Gorakhpur-Sonauli national highway remained affected for the ninth consecutive day today.
The rescue operation in Basti continued with the help of 13 teams set up for the purpose.
Several thousand of hectares of land was reported affected due to flood in Barabanki.
