Concession scheme for de-controlled fertilisers to continue

New Delhi, Aug 23 (UNI) The Centre today announced payment of 100 per cent freight charges under the concession scheme for the sale of de-controlled phosphatic and potassic fertilisers which would be continued in 2007-08 with modifications.

The freight charges would be applicable till the point of sale to improve availability of fertilisers to farmers.

The decision on the continuation of the scheme with modifications was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters.

Mr Chidambaram assured the farmers and the state governments that fertilisers were available in adequate quantities and there was no shortage as reported in a section of the media.

If there was any problem in availability, they should get in touch with the Department of Fertilisers, he said.
