BJP suspects Sonia insisting on implementation Mumbai riot report

New Delhi, Aug 23 (UNI) The BJP today alleged a ''sinister design'' behind Congress President Sonia Gandhi's directive to the Maharashtra Chief Minister to implement Srikrishna Commission Report on 1992-93 Mumbai riots.

Addressing newspersons, BJP Parliamentary Party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra charged Ms Gandhi with ''engineering'' another Hindu-Muslim riots by getting the report implemented, keeping in mind the coming assembly elections in Gujarat.

''It's timing is definitely well thought. Otherwise the report was submitted in 1998 and there is Congress government in Maharashtra since 1999. What it has been doing all these years?'' he asked.

The BJP leader said the report was rejected by the Maharashtra government in 1998, terming it ''biased''.

''Opening a 16-year-old chapter now has surprised everybody, including the BJP. It shows there is some sinister design behind it,'' he said.
