Vehicle lifters gang busted

Dewas, MP, Aug 22 (UNI) An interstate vehicle lifter's gang was busted with the arrest of its chieftain Zaffru alias Abbas, who carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest, and one of his associate, police said today.

''On a tip-off, Haryana-residents Zakir and Zaffru were arrested while they were travelling in a jeep under suspicious circumstances,'' Superintendent of Police I P Kulshreshtha told reporters here today.

He said the gang was involved in stealing more than 150 vehicles.

Besides, several cases of murder, loot and dacoity were registered against them. About 25 members of the gang are active in Haryana, New Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and other states.

Zaffru used name Abbas while staying in Bhopal and Raisen. He had fled from a court and had managed to escape from police in several encounters.
