Sukhoi to exhibit Super Jet-100

Moscow, Aug 22: Russian aircraft maker Sukhoi will hold the first public demonstration of its Super Jet-100 passenger plane, for the first time, on September 26, RIA Novosti news agency reported today quoting a source at the Moscow Aviation and Space Salon (MAKS).

The Super Jet-100 is currently underway at Zhukovsky, near here.

The Super Jet-100 project is a family of medium-haul passenger aircraft developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau in cooperation with major US and European aviation corporations, including Boeing, Snecma, Thales, Messier Dowty, Liebherr Aerospace and Honeywell.

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft, a subsidiary of the state-owned Sukhoi holding, plans to produce at least 700 regional jets.

It plans to sell 35 per cent of them in the US, 25 per cent in Europe, ten per cent in Latin America and seven per cent in Russia and China.

The overall market for the Super Jet-100 is estimated at about 5,500 planes, worth 100 billion dollar, until 2023.

So far, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft has secured over 60 orders for its regional aircraft. Russia's leading air carrier Aeroflot, is one of the largest clients, with contracts for the delivery of at least 45 planes.

At the Paris Air Show in June, Sukhoi signed a 283-million dollar contract to supply ten Superjet-100 aircraft to Italian carrier ItAlia Airlines.
